An interesting question was raised on /r/southafrica earlier today in regards to Africa, homosexuality and colonization.

Are there any examples of recorded homophobic encounters or homophobic tribes/cultures from pre-colonial times? Conversely, are there any examples of pre-colonial tribes/cultures who were explicitly tolerant of or practicing homosexuality?
