Currently running the family business, which is not working out for me, and wish to go back to my passion of history. I have a BA in European History which is about 4 years old now and would like to pursue a masters in Museum Stuides, library science, public history or archivist. Currently in the process of applying to internships and volunteering at museums and organizations wherever I'd be accepted, as a 27 year old intern... Is there anything else I can be doing to help myself?
Hello, I'm an archivist. :) I dole out free advice here on the regular, but I prefer to do PMs so we can talk specifics.
But don't worry about being 27... Actually you're a bit young. These are all common second-try careers for people. I had classmates in lib school in their 30s and 40s. Any previous life/career experience you have will not be held against you in this field. Actually retail experience in particular is seen very positively by hiring committees and supervisors.
You should check out /r/Archivists and /r/MuseumPros too, since museums and archives are rather separate career paths.
