Need to find information about Sparta before Leonidas I was around, anyone know of any sources that could indicate what Sparta/Greece was like before the latter mentioned leader?
It's not specifically on Sparta, but Robin Osborne's Greece in the Making, 1200-479 BC is a well-respected volume, and is frequently referenced. And there's a good bit about Sparta too.
