Do you mean strictly within academia or in the broader professional world? I don't have a PhD and can't speak to what it's like in academia but there's plenty of demand out there for people with Middle East-related degrees. Particularly because at the PhD level you're almost certainly talking about someone with very high professional proficiency or fluency in a Middle Eastern language.
