Seeing in the news today that the [Armada Portrait of Elizabeth 1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armada_Portrait#/media/File:Elizabeth_I_Armada_Portrait_British_School.jpg) has just been bought for the nation....
Elizabeth's clothing is clearly sumptuous and making various statements, but would she wear this level of luxury on a day to day basis?
If not, what would she likely wear?

As for Elizabeth I specifically, that portrait shows her in one of her most elaborate court dress. You can find other portraits of her in less elaborate dress like this or this. This is a replica of her effigy dress. Those are just the clothes she would like to appear in public in, she would have worn more pared down and more comfortable outfits (but still well made and decorated) when she's not seeing anyone.
