Off the top of my head, lens-based optical instruments, including telescopes and eyeglasses, were largely absent from China before being introduced sometime in the late 14th or early 15th century. Despite having a sophisticated domestic industry for producing mirrors, eyeglasses in China seem mostly to have been imported until sometime in the later 16th century. During the later Ming, eyeglasses, especially for nearsightedness, became very popular among the scholar-gentry, while widely being recognized as foreign innovation.

There's some discussion of this in Volume 4 of Science and Civilization in China (by Joseph Needham & Wang Ling).

Needham cites a 1936 article by Kaiming Chiu as his chief source, so it's possible (even likely) there's subsequent scholarship that I'm unaware of.
