Why is it that it is common to find a man named "Jesus" in Spanish-speaking countries but the practice of naming somebody "Jesus" is taboo in other European countries?

I read that many men are named "Jesus" in Latin American and other Spanish-speaking countries. What explains that only in the Spanish cultural sphere "Jesus" became a common man's name but remained a taboo naming practice in most European countries?
