In class, we are learning about the gulags in the USSR and how it is a microcosm of the Soviet Union. Our teacher talked to us about how the prisoners are removed from the rest of the Soviet Union, much like how the Soviet Union was removed from the rest of the world, thus the segregation is unfair and working against communism.
This is how I am trying to understand it:
Gulags isolate the prisoners from the rest of society. (the segregation part)
Segregation is unfair?? (the inequality part) This is where I have trouble. I don't know how I would go about explaining this part.
Inequality is against the communist ideology
Stalin's gulags don't work towards communism.
How is the isolation promoting inequality?
Thank you!
