Hi AskHistorians, I'm years into researching the family tree, which for the most part is tricky. But my paternal grandfather has turned out to be a real dark horse. Current living family doesn't know a great deal about his life prior to 1950, but I made a breakthrough in managing to acquire a picture of him from cousin, on horseback, in uniform!
Quite excited by the discovery as I have no photos of him this young, but now the puzzle of figuring out where to go from here. This is very different from the long list of postmen uniforms in the family tree, and I was wondering if this is the right sub-reddit to ask this question? I'd be very grateful if someone is able to point me in the right direction.
couple of assumptions here:
Since you are Australian I assume he was Australian. Him holding a lance probably made him a light horse man/lancer
