What do you mean by "bank?" Are you talking like a brick-and-mortar building to hold the town's money? Or middle-man to facilitate transactions and/or secure belongings? Banks as we know them today (at least in the US) didn't really come about until Jackson's presidency, with his Bank War against Nicholas Biddle (The reason American currency is/was supposedly backed by gold in Fort Knox and all that jazz). Doesn't really answer your question, but it might give you a good jumping-off point to get into bank history. This book, by Howe is very comprehensive and will tell you more than you ever wished to know about the US from 1813-1848. And this one, by Meacham talks a lot more about the Bank War and Jackson's influence on modern banking/economical problems. The second one has far more editorializing and IMO paints a too-pretty picture of Jackson and his presidency.
