Hello, as someone who have previously been in the army, is a history student and a lover of war-movies, it strikes me on how modern movies depicts small unit tactics in ww2.
Like how in many war-movies the soldiers are standing up and shooting, without taking cover or maneuvering for better positions? How accurate is this? and how commonly was this?
I can't vouch for to many movies, but band of brothers (series on HBO) is excellent if you would like to see what small unit tactics for airborne and other "light" infantry was like. One really good example I can think of is the Brécourt Manor Assault, which is covered excellently in the series that shows a good use of fire and maneuver and supportive fire from armor, my ROTC officers actually highly advise we watch the series as a means of understanding platoon leadership.
