As the question states, this seems like an odd choice given that French is not a hugely spoken language in this country (USA), nor was it ever. So what is the history behind this rather strange idea?
Are you in the US? Check if the product is made in Canada. Both English and French are official languages here, and most products carry information in both.
Products have to be labelled with the languages of the countries that they are exported to and imported from. Not sure what country you mean - I assume you mean America, which makes me think the French is probably to placate Canadians.
