I love history. I learn about it for fun, but have never studied it in a college setting. I would very much enjoy doing something related to the study/teaching of history for a career but don't know what if any options might be open to me.
Figured those of you who do have jobs/degrees in the field might know what positions I should be looking into.
It really depends on whether or not you already have a college degree. Here are a few things to think about...
No-degree
(1) Museum docent
(2) Archival/library assistant (depending on the institution)
B.A. or higher
(1) Social studies/government teacher, provided you complete the necessary certifications.
(2) Low-level publishing house jobs (depending on what your degree is in, advancement would come through experience)
(3) Local/county governments. They often have local museums and cultural activities boards/committees that put on events that try to connect the community to their past.
(4) Depending on your current situation, you could also consider going to graduate school somewhere, which would open up your options quite a bit more. However, if you cannot get into a program that would offer you employment/funding, I wouldn't recommend this route.
