So my knowledge of African history before colonialism is essentially nothing. What are some books that I could use to make it not night. I recognise that there is probably not going to be one book covering the entire continent, so books about a particular region/country would be great as well. Thank you in advance.
I would recommend Martin Meredith's The Fortunes of Africa. It practically covers the entire continent and does so in a clear and enjoyable matter. I tell you, there's enough drama and vulgarity in African history to rival Game of Thrones, which is a good thing(?). Martin Meredith has done a lot of work in Africa as a journalist, having even made a biography of Nelson Mandela.
