If I were the average pirate, how often would I have run into another ship that I could terrorize? Also, did pirates ever run across each other, and if so would they fight?
Do you have a time period? A German raider during the WWI could most likely be considered a privateer of sorts, but you may be referring to someone similar to Henry Morgan (who was mostly active between 1660s to early 1670s.), Or the more famous Edward Teach (Blackbeard-active around 1717-1718).
