First off from 1492-1607 there was little to no European settlement in America, therefor no trade. Jamestown being the first official colony founded in 1607. Followed shortly by Plymouth in 1620. Early trade after the settlement revolved around an extremely high dependance across America due to the lack of manufacturing. Europe practically giving goods away due to the lack of profitable return aside from local delicacy such as timber. The venture into America only becoming profitable. (No gold like the original colonists had originally planned and heard of) after the later introduction of the cash crop Tobacco, introduced by John Rolfe in 1609 due to its ability to grow extremely well in the climate. This trend of cash crop production exploded, the Trade Triangle if you would between Europe, Africa, and America evolving. In return for Slaves and Goods America was exporting large amounts of crop to Europe. This trend continued up until the end date of you question. The primary evolution of trade occurring after the French and Indian war. So in summary the introduction of cash crops onto new land spurred a trade system between Europe, Africa, and America to stimulate common interest.
