I am not sure if this is the correct sub for this question, but I have recently wondered recently, the political rhetoric in South Africa has taken a strange turn to blame the colonialists for forced displacement of people, and while that is unarguably true, others have noted how the San (or first people) were originally displaced by other nations.
They encountered them several hundred years before. There is quite a lot of preserved San rock art in the Kwa-Zulu Natal region (and some other Nguni dominated areas) indicating a San presence in these areas long before colonialists arrived. There are a number of theories supporting either displacement of the San by the Nguni or assimilation (e.g. the adoption of the click sounds in Xhosa) or a mix of both.
