I don't know a huge amount about the Nixon administration. I know about Watergate, I know he ended the Vietnam War, opened relations with China, and a few other things, but I'd like to know if there are any well regarded books that look at his presidency as a whole. I'm also interested in his later years as an elder statesman and maybe his pre-presidential years.

For just the presidency you can't beat President Nixon by Richard Reeves. It starts on the first day and ends with the resignation. I'd recommend reading All the President's Men before or alongside to get a better idea of who the players are.
