Was just reading Between the World and Me and Coates made one (of many) statements that struck me as a little controversial. It was something along the lines of - Race didn't invent racism- I was wondering what the consensus of racial theorists believe? I was under the impression that it wasn't until the categorization of different peoples, that racism based on skin color started to emerge.
Found an off-hand remark from one book that during the 1800s, (Western) economy suffered from several slumps and depressions at least partially because of occasional raw material shortages. This might actually have some bearing for my thesis; anyone here with possible sources & overviews I could pursue?
