There are accounts of aircraft simply disappearing in a single explosion, usually the result of anti-aircraft fire and probably after detonation of the bombs on board. But flak at altitude was 88mm or 105mm rounds. It was much less common for fighters to cause this, though fuel fires were of course common and in some cases these could consume an aircraft very rapidly.
