I don't have access to my files on the NTS, but I do know of Base Camp Mercury, which was within the test site. It served as home to thousands, including families - and women were very much a presence there, at least in a domestic role. When I visited in the late mid 1990s, there were women present in a service capacity at the restaurant, and I suspect that many were employed that way in the 1950s, but I don't have information on that. I remember seeing information on woman working at NTS in technical capacities, but I don't have the documentation on hand, and I can't be certain if that applied to the 1950s. But at the very least, Mercury is a place to consider in answering your question.
