-Albert Watson (A democratic congressman switched to republicans in 1965) Headed the South Carolina "Democrats for Goldwater" organization. -Strom Thurmond switched parties because of his opposition to the 1964 Civil Rights Ac -Joseph O. Rogers, Jr. who said this about segregation

"It is my opinion and conviction that we should move voluntarily in separate columns toward a common goal, I believe that the expression and hopes and dreams of both races are better realized through this voluntarily social agreement".

-William E. Dannemeyer was at the beginning of his career a republican, but then switched to republican in 1976. He was an outspoken critic of gay rights, he even wrote a book about that "Shadow in the Land: Homosexuality in America"

-Jesse Helms switched to republican in the seventies., he said this about the civil rights march "The negro cannot count forever on the kind of restraint that's thus far left him free to clog the streets, disrupt traffic, and interfere with other men's rights."

-Trent Lott defended segregation before he entered politics, and was one of the conservative democrats. Switched parties in 1972.

-Mills E. Godwin Jr. was one of the leaders of the segregationist policy in Virginia. Switched parties in 1973.

To be fair, the rest of democrats who switched to republicans did it for opposition against "too much liberalism", abortion, or in support of fiscal conservatism.
