Hello there! Currently, I'm in the outlining stages of a story, and I really need help understanding the US Army during WW2. As such, I need to understand a few things that I'm unclear on in my research. First and foremost, I require information on ranks -- and not just their order, but what the job of each rank entailed. Two, I need information on unit types, as well as what each unit's job was. (I mean, for example, I know of platoons, but I have no idea on what they did.) Three, and this would be amazing if you can answer it, how did all these units and ranks coalesce when it came to combat? How did they work to benefit the situation on the battlefield, basically?
