There are similar, older myths from other Mesopotamian cultures, the oldest of which is Sumerian. Besides the written evidence of these stories and their ages, theories that these inspired the Hebrew flood myth are corroborated by the age of Babylonian captivity. In the 6th century BCE, eleven of the twelve tribes of Israel were exiled to Babylonia and remained there for centuries. It would make sense that they became familiar with Sumerian mythology.
