A good overview of Home Rule over the long term is Alvin Jackson's Home Rule: An Irish History 1800-2000 which as the subtitle suggests, carries the idea's history through the twentieth century. Alan O'Day 's Irish Home Rule, 1867-1921 is a bit more focused and does a good job of disentangling the various strands of political thought surrounding Home Rule. The work of Paul Bew is also quite valuable, especially his Ideology and the Irish Question: Ulster Unionism and Irish Nationalism, 1912–1916 which examines the development of the more radical branches and divides in both nationalist and unionist ranks. Bew's other works on the nineteenth century, especially Parnell, is also worth checking out.
