There was plenty of conflict after World War I, which demolished the pre-war international system and toppled a number of empires in central and eastern Europe, and in Asia. In Russia there was a civil war that spanned continents, there were revolutions in Germany and a good deal of fighting to settle the borders of new Eastern European states, and there was a nationalist revolution in Turkey which destroyed the old Ottoman Empire and resisted foreign attempts to control Anatolia.
