So I was reading an Askreddit thread earlier that had a sub-conversation about puritan influence and it just spread into different theories including that victorian historians, when they wrote about the puritans, projected their own values and that today's historians took from the victorian accounts. What do historians today think of social norms in the puritan era and if any of that actually influenced the USA today or rather that what seems to have come from puritan values might have come from a different source of cultural and historical influence. Is there currently an agreed upon right answer?

While your question is excellent, I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to reframe it slightly to be suitable for /r/AskHistorians. We have a 20 year Current Events moratorium here, and as such framing your question around the USA today unfortunately isn't workable. If you'd like to reframe it around a different time-frame, that would be excellent.
Alternatively, if you wish to explore modern historiographical takes on your question (that is, what do historians today think of the role of puritan influence in shaping US culture) that's also perfectly fine.
