The Carthaginian colonies in question would have been in Northwest Africa, in what we now know as Morocco. They were created sometime around 400 BC, and the territory was surrendered to the Romans after the Second Punic War in 201 BC. The area then became known as Mauretania Tingitana.

Of the colonies taken by the Romans, only a few have survived to this day. One was a colony named Arambys, that later evolved into the city of Essaouira, Morocco. Another one, named Tingis, turned into Tangier, one of the biggest cities in Morocco today. Another is Chellah, which is in what is now known as Rabat, the capital of Morocco. The rest, for the most part, either faded away in time or were destroyed by Muslim conquerors, as is the case of Lixus.
