'Lions led by donkeys' books?

Hi Reddit Historians. I want to enquire about something very important to me currently. I need some history book recommendations.

This is my last year before university, and in my history course, we've been asked to pursue a personal investigation on a chosen topic.

My question I have chosen, which I cannot change -

'Lions led by donkeys.’  How valid is this assessment of the British army on the Western Front during the First World War?'

For reference, this is a brief idea of what we need to begin with.

⁃	A handful of primary sources arguing their own viewpoints

⁃	secondary sources

⁃	interpretations arguing different sides. 

Reddit, I am asking you for book recommendations. One I can think of currently is British politician Alan Clark's book 'Donkeys' which argues that yes, they were 'lions led by donkeys' essentially. There is another historian, Brian Bond, a revisionist, who disagrees with this view and argues that the losses were not futile and that Clark's view was basically unfair.

If any of you can recommend me some books to read and use for reference, that would be incredible! I'm not asking for information regarding the topic, only recommendations.
