Why did the US Secret Service stop giving old Presidential Limos to museums?

Apparently the last Presidential Limo given to a museum was the one Reagan got shot next to, in 1981.

Then afterwards, any presidential limo would get "destroyed." How come? Why not keep giving them to museums?

Also, how do they "destroy" the presidential limos? Do they dismantle them and sell them for parts, do they test them in a battle scenario, to see how well the limo would've held up if a terrorist tried to blow up the limo with an RPG or IED or something? Or how?

The USSS stopped giving them to museums so they can study how to improve the next series of limousines to protect the president. Basically, they use them as testing vehicles against the latest weapon technology.
