The discovery of fire was by the human species Homo Erectus somewhere between 125,000 and 4,000,000 years ago. We're certain that Homo Erectus was lighting fires 125,000 years, but and evidence of burning and firing from earlier than that could have been deliberate or could have been natural fires.

By contrast, domestication of dogs happened at about the same time the Neanderthals died out, around 40,000 years ago, based on genetic sequencing.
