Hi, a kind admin from /r/History sent me here with my question about Medieval Clothing. So here it goes...
I've always been fascinated with the Middle Ages. Now that I have become older I have the urge to do some reenactment with some friends.
So my question do you guys have some good information, books, documentaries, sites about clothing in medieval times?
Specificaly about what Knights Hospitaller wore (12-13th century, everyday clothing to combat gear) and what the regular peasant/citizen from 12-14th century wore. I find it somewhat hard to find some really historical accurate examples.
Currently I'm just looking for the right information, I already got a link on how to make it myself but that's not what I'm currently looking for. (That's stuff for later).
Thanks in advance!
This time period is a little further back than my usual time range, but I've heard good things from dress historians about The Medieval Tailor's Assistant. Oddly enough, a lot of my costume research begins with Pinterest these days. You'll find some well-written blogs or short articles that are professional enough to provide sources or a bibliography. Even Wikipedia can get you started with exploring the references at the bottom of the page and be sure to check Google Books and Archive.org for free online resources. Once you have a good lexicon of garments going it can be easier to research by name than an overall time period, as well.
