I was recently viewing a ww2 diorama I believe to have depicted fighting between US and German forces in north africa and noticed a German tank with a yellow 'V' painted on. Noone I talked to knew what the V could have meant. (Sadly asking the creator, a close relative, wasn't an option as it was on display, along with other historical dioramas he created, at his funeral).

Just a moment ago, I also noticed a very prominent 'V' on the front of a train pulling into a concentration camp in Schindler's List.

Was 'V' a symbol used by nazi germany? If so, what was its significance?
