what is the best book on Early Modern warfare?

I'm particularly interested in the evolution of equipment and tactics throughout this time period. An emphasis on why changes in tactics were adopted and specifics about what happened in various battles to shift the meta, so to speak, would be amazing.

I'm mostly curious about Europe, but wouldn't mind treatments on when tactics that evolved differently clashed.

The best book that will suit you is : - War! What is It Good For? By Ian Morrison. He tries to explains the evolution of tactics through history and tries to predict tactics of the future(which I personally felt was the weakest part of the book).

For a better argument of tactics and strategy of future, I would recommend The Utility of Force by Rupert Smith.
