But technology did not change all that much. What really changed was the art, architecture, and iconography. With the fall of Teotihuacan, Monte Alban, and the Lowland Maya city-states,t his opened up the opportunity for new and different developments or hybridizations in art. A notable example is Chichen Itza in northern Yucatan. Early scholars attributed the art influence on the city to Toltecs, but more recent work has shown that this an international style that popped up across Mesoamerica in multiple areas at roughly the same time.
