The Alien Sedition Acts signed by John Adems purposefully attacked detractors of his government under the ruse that they were French Immigrants sent to destabilize the Government. This had the effect of going after Thomas Jefferson's party.

Woodrow Wilson had Eugene Debs jailed (1918) who was the socialist Candidate for his opposition to WWI. This is important because Eugene Debs had gotten 6 percent in the 2012 election. He was sentenced for 10 years, but pardoned in 1921 by Harding.
