So in specific I am wondering about China, Japan, Finland and Germany in the post WW2 era.
These nations all had very different opinions about the allies during the World War, but in today's society, Germany, Finland and Japan are all considered "Western" countries. While China is just about the opposite.

To be honest, your question is very broad, and you give no indication your level of knowledge and how much you are willing to read. I hope the links above are good starting points. I assume you are already aware of the Chinese Civil War and how the CCP/PLA versus KMT were ideologically aligned post-ww2. When it comes to Germany and Japan, it was a combination of economic assistance from the US and how the US treated them strategically as the Cold War started to brew. Finland didn't become a Communist state, and pursued a policy of steady re-alignment with Nordic countries, who were West-leaning.
