Robin Kelley's: Race Rebels: Culture, Politics, and the Black Working Class deals primarily with the issues faced by African-Americans and other minority's in 1950/60's California. The book is a collection of anecdotes from the period surrounding the Watts riot and I strongly suggest you check it out for more information on the subject.

The short answer to your question is yes. Other minorities such as "Chicanos" and even Italians faced similar discrimination to a lesser degree. Similarly there was racism between light-skinned and dark-skinned African-Americans over the perceived amount of "Africa" within them.

A lot of hate back then. Catholics hated Protestants. Protestants hated Catholics. They both hated the Jews. Any minority with darker skin pigment where subhuman. Their lives did not matter. Gays where highly discriminated against. White supremacy was the norm
