These are two different books with the same title and an (ostensibly) similar subject. Shaara's 'Glorious Cause' is not a work of history, but a work of historical fiction. If you are looking for a historical resource, we definitely recommend Middlekauf instead. While works of fiction can be fun reads and some can be engaging and thought provoking, they are not themselves historical resources. In addition, the novel by Shaara only provides a limited perspective on a few events during the war itself, while Middlekauf's book covers the period from the end of the Seven Years War to the ratification of the US Constitution and covers political, cultural and military history at various levels, rather than simply military event from a perspective of several famous participants.
