It seems like when you watch movies and TV shows set in historical times, they had fabric carpeting, but the flooring itself was either stone, wood, or some other type of tile (for lack of a better term). Now a days most flooring in the US (AFAIK) is carpeted. When did the idea of a fully carpeted floor become an invention? And when did it become popular in building and designing houses?
Fully carpeted or just carpeted? Because carpets on flooring was incredibly common. To the point that western terminology about styles of oriental carpets is commonly based on Western Renaissance paintings that included such carpets rather than on the styles or features of those carpets themselves.
