There's a new general history of the Ottoman Empire coming out from Douglas Howard entitled Amid the Ruins: A History of the Ottoman Empire, 1300-1924. I'm excited to see how successful he is in integrating the field's recent progress into the historical narrative, and if he can replace Caroline Finkel's Osman's Dream (2005) as the best general history of the Ottomans available.
