The votes are in!
By unanimous consent, the Flairs and Users both voted /u/rioabajo's answer to the question "Western films often purport a stark difference between Southwestern "village Indians" like the Pueblo and Yuma, and "warrior Indians" like the Apache and Comanche. Were these cultures really so distinct in lifestyle?" as the top pick of the month!
Close on his heels for the second award is /u/kieslowskifan, who responded to "I constantly hear that the Russian Imperial Army of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was outdated, poorly organized, and poorly led. How exactly was is outdated, how was it poorly led, what was the obsolete equipment it used, and what more modern equipment were other nations using?"
Finally, we are introducing a third award beginning this month, the "Dark Horse Award", to better recognize the great contributions that non-Flairs make to the sub! Although we have had Non-Flairs win the 'Best Of' award in the past, Flairs certainly win more often than not. As such, we are adding this new Award which goes to the top Non-Flaired vote getter from both the Flaired and Non-Flaired polls, combined.
The inaugural winner of the Dark Horse Award this month is /u/ohsideSHOWbob for their fantastic response to "Why is Environmental Determinism wrong?".
I am also greatly pleased to announce that this month, winners begin to earn more than mere bragging rights (although those are pretty sweet!). Thanks to the Admins, especially /u/achievementunlockd, we are able to hand out reddit Gold to the contest winners moving forwards!
So as always, a big congratulations to the winners, and a big thanks to everyone who contributed to the subreddit in the past month! Also a reminder, if you want to nominate answers for the monthly awards, the best way to do so is to submit your favorite posts every week to the Sunday Digest!
For a list of past winners, check out this Wiki page!
Congratulations /u/rioabajo, /u/kieslowskifan, and /u/ohsideSHOWbob for your amazing posts this month, and to all the nominees as well!
Aw shucks! I'll have to remember that strangers on the internet like me as I move forward with these stupid fellowship applications.
Now that I'm engaging with research in a more sustained way I was hoping to build up my portfolio here to eventually get flaired sometime in the next few months. But I kind of like getting the amateur level award title.... so maybe I'll just keep appearing with a swoosh of my cloak every so often ;)
Thanks for all votes, I hope to be worthy of the honor. I feel like Sally Field
Congrats to the winners!!!
Congrats!
I'm flattered! That set of posts was pretty much everything I know, so I'm out of ammunition for next go around. I'll savor the taste this time.
Wow, great work! Congratulations :)
