Can anyone link me to stories(if there are any) of ethnic minorities serving in the British Army (in Europe) during WW2?
I know of many ethnic minorities that served in the RAF during WW2 and I know there were some Black and Indian officers that served in the Far East or Africa with the British Army. I also know there were quite a few Chinese Canadian officers with the Commonwealth forces in Europe as well. But are there any accounts of ethnic minorities in the British Army in Europe during WW2?
Was there like a colour bar in the British Army?
Could I get some clarification on your question?
When you speak of ethnic minorities, are you speaking of ethnic minorities in the UK at the time? That is, Englishmen of African (or other) origin? Or are we talking about colonial units which would have consisted of ethnicities which in the UK would have been minorities (i.e. Nigerian soldiers, Indian soldiers)?
