Hi OP, when you say recent history, do you mean now-ish? Just a heads up that this subreddit has a "20-year rule", where respondents can discuss events/conditions up to (currently) 1996. So, if that's good enough for your purposes, great, but if not, you might try a more current-events-related sub like /r/geopolitics.
