I am interested in how Native American collections have developed over the years from cabinets of curiosity to comprehensive collections. Thanks.
Well apparently there is a LC subject heading for this, Ethnological museums and collections - United States - History and it looks like there's actually quite a few books discussing this evolution. I assumed you meant "stuff" and not "paper" with "archives," I've read a few articles on Native American archives I can dig up for you (I'm an archivist and keep current on the literature), but I've never seen a book on it. Native Americans didn't produce paper records, or have paper records produced about them, until recently so the history of NA archives is pretty modern. NAGPRA can come into play with NA archives sometimes though.
