how come augustus didn't write his own "book"?

Augustus liked to imitate Caesar and always more or less follow in his footsteps. So how come he didn't want to leave something behind like the Caesar's Gallic Wars describing his own Civil War?

Augustus did leave behind personally written records of his achievements, offices, projects, donations, etc. in a text called the Res Gestae divi Augusti. Hopefully someone else will be able to say whether or not he had detailed accounts of his civil war and campaign efforts.
