There has been an ongoing debate between scholars on whether or not the Huns are related to the Xiongnu, and whether or not a movement by the Xiongnu across the steppe was a catalyst of the third century Eurasian collapse. If this is ever proved, how would this rewrite history? Would historians be forced to take the steppes into greater account in global history?
