The fact that the vast majority of every army ever is made up of junior enlisted means that most of the men in the front row AND back rows will be Privates, PFCs, or Corporals.

That is not to say that senior officers did not also cone ashore early in the landings. Teddy Roosevelt JR was Assistant Division Commander of the 4th Infantry Division. Landing on Utah Beach he was the senior officer in the first wave and earned a Medal of Honor for his actions.
