And the Middle and New England colonies are largely named after English places. Why is that, too?
Point of order, New York (once it was taken from the Dutch in the late 17th century) was named after the then Duke of York, the future King James II.
Further, since I'm not sure whether you count Maryland and Delaware as middle or southern, but either way it won't work for your question, as Maryland was named for Queen Henrietta Maria, the wife of Charles II. Delaware, on the other hand, was named after Thomas Ward [Edit: West, Thomas West], Lord De La Warr. Since they're right next to each other, both of your statements (all Southern vs. no Middle) cannot be true at the same time.
I'd suggest reforming the question.
