Does anyone have any information on the kind of uniforms that were used in the Spanish American War? This is a photo of my great-grandfather in Spanish uniform. I am trying to ascertain rank and potentially obtain a physical description of the uniform to restore the photo.
Hi there! Are you certain that your great-grandfather fought in the Spanish-American War? He appears to be wearing the uniform of the Guardia Civil (the tricornio he's wearing gives it away), which is the national police force. Looks to me as if he was a primero teniente (First Lieutenant) judging by the star on his sleeve. If he was, then his uniform would have looked like this in color.
